Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has described Chinedu Obasi’s move to Bolton Wanderers as one that will help the striker revive his career, reports Says.
Obasi who played under Siasia at the 2005 African Youth Championship in Benin Republic and the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland the same year, was on Saturday given a short-term deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance by the Championship side.
“I think it was good for him because he is one of the players I can describe as highly talented among Nigerian players but he has not been fortunate when it comes to injuries,” Siasia, who also coached Obasi at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, told CSN.
“He was excellent when he was with the Flying Eagles and I saw him as one of the players that would make it big in football, following the talent he displayed in Holland.
“Now that he has the opportunity to play in England, I can only wish him well and an injury-free period. If he has no injury problem, I am sure that Bolton will offer him a better contract at the end of the season.”
Nigerian international Obasi, 31, last played for Swedish side AIK before moving to the Championship side to fulfill his dream of playing in England.
