Bill Gates Explains Why He Spoke Directly to Nigerian Leaders

The Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, again on Monday criticised the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

Gates, in an interview with the CNN, said that the Federal Government’s investment in education and health was not good enough.

“While it may be easier to be polite, it’s more important to face facts so that you can make progress,” the philanthropist told a room of Nigeria’s government elite that included the President.
In an exclusive television interview with the CNN, Gates said he spoke out to implore Nigerian politicians to focus on human capital and its large youth population.

“The current quality and quantity of investment in this young generation in health and education just isn’t good enough. So, I was very direct,” he told CNN.
The philanthropist had at a special session of the National Economic Council, on Thursday, said Nigeria would do better with strong investments in health and education, rather than concentrate on physical infrastructure to the detriment of human capital development.

He had said, “Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth, with the fourth worst maternal mortality rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. One in three Nigerian children is chronically malnourished.

“In upper middle-income countries, the average life expectancy is 75 years. In lower middle-income countries, it’s 68; in low-income countries, it’s 62. In Nigeria, it is lower still, just 53 years.

“The Nigerian government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identifies investing in the people as one of three strategic objectives. But the execution priorities don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritising physical capital over human capital. People without roads, ports and factories can’t flourish. And roads, ports and factories without skilled workers to build and manage them can’t sustain an economy.”
But the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, in an interview with State House correspondents after the NEC meeting, faulted the claim of Gates.

He said the plan had enough provisions for education and health, adding that what was needed was for states to complement efforts of the Federal Government.

Nollywood actress Sylvia Anyanwu, has opened up in an interview that she can stay off sex for months.

Sunnewsonline hooked up with the actress and she talked about her marriage and how she has been able to keep it intact since her wedding in July 2016.

According to the actress, communication is what matters in a relationship and not sex. Sex should not be regarded as food that is needed for survival on a daily basis and so she can even stay off it for years.

Jennifer Lopez is on the cover of the April 2018 issue of Harper's BAZAAR.

She is now the latest celebrity to come forward to narrate the sexual harassment experience she encountered in Hollywood.

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 48-year-old singer and actress shared her own #MeToo moment.

When asked if she has ever been sexually harassed in Hollywood, Lopez admitted that she hasn’t had the same experiences as some women who have shared their stories. “But have I been told by a director to take off my shirt and show my boobs? Yes, I have,” she said. “But did I do it? No, I did not.”

Lopez said the inappropriate interaction occurred on the set of one of her first movies. “When I did speak up, I was terrified,” she went on. “I remember my heart beating out of my chest, thinking, ‘What did I do? This man is hiring me!'” Although she was just starting out in the movie industry, Lopez said she knew the behavior “wasn’t right.”

“But I think ultimately the Bronx in me was like, ‘Nah, we’re not having it,'” she said.

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, K.Brule has on micro-blogging website, Twitter, disclosed how he feels about the state of things in the entertainment industry.

Well, it started when Senator Ben Bruce Twitted that what “Black Panther has done, Nollywood can and should do.”

He wrote:

“The movie #BlackPanther has just hit the $1 billion mark and is still growing. This is an almost entirely all Black movie. It shows the potential that Black movies have including and especially Nollywood movies. What Black Panther has done, Nollywood can and should do.”

K.Brule however replied him…and according to him, Black Panther was successful because a lot of money was spent during its production.

G-Worldwide Vs Kiss Daniel Case Adjourned To May 16th by Federal High Court

In the matter filed against Kiss Daniel by his former label, G-Worldwide.

The Federal High Court in Lagos ruled yesterday that having made a case for the grant of injunctions against the artists, on the basis that the same evidence which was presented for the grant of the injunctions are same with those submitted to the court for the trial and main issue, the court is constrained to make an order for an accelerated hearing and trial of the matter.

Recall that the court had order the parties to maintain status quo under the recording contract in December 2017, and by virtue of the fact that both parties have submitted themselves to the court, parties are to refrain from taking any steps or doing any act that may affect the final decision of the court.

The parties are to come before the court on 16th May, 2018 with their witnesses – Emperor Geezy and Kiss Daniel on that day to tender their evidence and testify.

A source has hinted that Kiss Daniel through his lawyers have reached out to his former label with a hope to reach a settlement
