Bill Gates Explains Why He Spoke Directly to Nigerian Leaders

The Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, again on Monday criticised the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
Gates, in an interview with the CNN, said that the Federal Government’s investment in education and health was not good enough.
“While it may be easier to be polite, it’s more important to face facts so that you can make progress,” the philanthropist told a room of Nigeria’s government elite that included the President.
In an exclusive television interview with the CNN, Gates said he spoke out to implore Nigerian politicians to focus on human capital and its large youth population.
“The current quality and quantity of investment in this young generation in health and education just isn’t good enough. So, I was very direct,” he told CNN.
The philanthropist had at a special session of the National Economic Council, on Thursday, said Nigeria would do better with strong investments in health and education, rather than concentrate on physical infrastructure to the detriment of human capital development.
He had said, “Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth, with the fourth worst maternal mortality rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. One in three Nigerian children is chronically malnourished.
“In upper middle-income countries, the average life expectancy is 75 years. In lower middle-income countries, it’s 68; in low-income countries, it’s 62. In Nigeria, it is lower still, just 53 years.
“The Nigerian government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identifies investing in the people as one of three strategic objectives. But the execution priorities don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritising physical capital over human capital. People without roads, ports and factories can’t flourish. And roads, ports and factories without skilled workers to build and manage them can’t sustain an economy.”
But the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, in an interview with State House correspondents after the NEC meeting, faulted the claim of Gates.
He said the plan had enough provisions for education and health, adding that what was needed was for states to complement efforts of the Federal Government.

Goodluck Jonathan denies N100bn from CBN Before 2015 elections

Former president Goodlcuk Jonathan, has denied media reports claiming N100 billion was moved from the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and taken to his residence in the presidential villa, Abuja, few weeks to the 2015 general election.

Reacting via his former aide, Reno Omokri, the former president said the reports is false and baseless. He also attacked the Vice President for allegedly sponsoring the wide allegations of corruption against his person.
Dear Vice President Osinbajo, Stop Hiding Behind Sources
--
The stories making the round in the media accusing former President Jonathan of looting N100 billion from the CBN and taking it directly to his house are false. Such a thing never happened.
The Presidency knows so which is why it circulated the story to various media houses and refuse to attach its name preferring to say that the story came from a 'source' in the Presidency.
I can authoritatively say that that source is no one other than the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
These same story was leaked by ’sources’ almost word for word to several online media last year.
Let me state that these allegations are lies. More interestingly is the fact that it is because this administration continues to make false allegations of financial misappropriation to mislead the public by blackmailing political opponents that caused the Egmont Group to suspend Nigeria.
The suspension is soon to have a very negative impact on Nigerian travelers who may soon find it very difficult to use their Nigerian domiciled cards abroad.
Now, Nigeria is on the verge of being expelled from the Egmont Group precisely because of these types of shenanigans by the current administration. If Nigeria is expelled, it will be a great tragedy for our economy.
It is a lie that N100 billion or any other amounts of money was taking from the vaults of the Central Bank of Nigeria and moved to former President Jonathan's house and if Vice President Osinbajo is sure of his claim, he should come out and make them instead of hiding behind faceless 'sources'.
This latest round of fallacious rumour mongering is nothing but the desperate last throes of a government that came in through propaganda and is about to go out because of a lack of proper agenda.
The allegation is false and it is precisely because they have no evidence to support this allegation that they are using faceless third parties to spread this slur.
President Jonathan’s administration has the enviable record of advancing Nigeria’s anti corruption war and delivered results to the point where we made our best ever improvement in Transparency International’s CPI in 2014 when we moved 8 places forward from 144 to 136. Can this government say the same.
How many people will they demonize?
Bill Gates spoke, and they said he is a dropout. TY Danjuma has spoken, they have labeled him an anarchist. President Obasanjo spoke and they say he has Messiah complex. President Babangida spoke, they arrested his spokesman. Bishop Kukah spoke, they told him to shut up. Nigerians spoke, they threatened us with death for hate speech!
There is nobody involved in imposing Buhari on Nigeria that is not secretly or openly regretting it. Even his own wife, Aisha, is full of regrets and has not hidden it.
Some may not regret openly, but when they are alone with their conscience it is regret all the way!

You can’t be fighting corruption and be corrupt – EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu

Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has warned officials of the agency to shun underhand dealings that can put the commission in a bad light.

He gave the warning on Monday at the EFCC Zonal office in Enugu State, where he urged the officials to see their work as a call from God to serve humanity. “You cannot be fighting corruption and be corrupt,” Magu said in a statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.

“You must be committed to your work and not mind the temptations because we will not spare anyone who is corrupt,” he said. The EFCC boss also advised them to always seek to learn from their superiors, saying nobody is a repository of knowledge.

Earlier before addressing staff members at the zonal office, he paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Ngozi Emehelu. Magu noted that the EFCC remains committed to learning and being guided by judicial prefects to carry out its functions of ridding Nigeria of corruption.  He said: “We are here to thank you for all your support and also solicit for more, knowing that we are not above board and will constantly need directions and guidance in the work we do.”

The EFCC boss stressed further that the judiciary was instrumental to the achievement of the anti-graft agency, adding that its support would be highly needed for continued success.  He also called on Nigerians across the country to do the needful and join forces with the commission to move the nation forward positively.  In her response, Justice Emehelu lauded the visit of the EFCC boss whom she described as a formidable and hardworking man.  She also assured him that the judiciary was poised to support the anti-graft agency in its efforts at eradicating corruption from the country.

Robbers Rape, Pour Chemical On Final Year UNIMAID Student

A final year student of the Department of Nursing, College of Medicine, University of Maiduguri, identified as Fatimah Abu, has been robbed, raped and bathed with chemical.
Miss Abu is currently at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Gwange, after the attack by suspected robbers.
According to Punch, the 24-year-old had boarded a tricycle at her school’s park on Friday en route her residence when she was abducted by the men.
The robbers allegedly took turns to rape her in a bush and poured chemicals on her body.
The chemicals reportedly caused blisters and burns on different parts of her skin.
The newspaper reports that the victim’s purse, containing her phone and some money, was taken away by the suspects.
The victim, upon regaining consciousness, reportedly flagged down a tricycle rider, who took her to the Dandal Police Station.
The police then rushed her to the state specialist hospital, Maiduguri.
Sister to the Biu, Borno State indigene, Zara said her sister was an easy-going person, wondering who must have attacked her.
Zara said, “She is my younger sister and I have been sleeping at the hospital since she was admitted.
“She cannot talk much because the acid affected her mouth as well. She does not know those people (responsible for the attack).
“She is innocent. She does not quarrel with anybody. Even her classmates testified to it.”
Zara urged the police to identify, arrest and punish the culprits.
The UNIMAID Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Ahmed, said he was aware of the incident, adding that he could not comment because the incident happened outside the school.
He said, “I am aware because I saw it on the television and the state Commissioner of Police commented on it.
“When something happens outside the university, I cannot comment.
“I just arrived from a journey and if I will say anything, I will need to get back to the school to make more findings.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, told the newspaper that acid was not poured on the victim, saying the police were on the trail of the suspects.
He said, “On the day of the incident, she said she went to a bank for a transaction and after she was done, she came out and boarded a tricycle. She said there were two other passengers in the tricycle and she sat in their midst.
“She said along the way, one of them came down, remaining her and another passenger. She said suddenly, the passenger brought out an handkerchief which he started waiving. She said she suddenly lost consciousness.
“According to her, she was sexually assaulted. She found herself around a railway line and she managed to get a Keke Napep which took her to the Dandal Police Station. There was no physical pouring of acid.
“It was the handkerchief which probably contained some chemicals that affected her skin and later degenerated into blisters.
“The blisters then turned to burns. With this information, we have spread our dragnets and we are on the trail of the suspects.”

54 Students Bag First Class Degree In UNIZIK

A total of 54 students graduated with first class degree certificates in the 2016/2017 academic session of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, made the disclosure, on Monday, in his office during the press conference to herald activities lined up this week to mark the 12th Convocation Ceremony of the University.
Ahaneku also disclosed that a total of 7731 graduands will be taking part in the convocation ceremony with a breakdown showing that 6641 graduands are for first degrees, 190 for Post Graduate Diplomas, 674 for Masters of Science degrees and 227 for Doctorate degrees.
He disclosed that the 12th Convocation of the University is the third in his administration aimed at maintaining the core values and real tradition of university tradition where students are admitted and also graduated annually.
“What this means is that we have started the core values and real tradition of the University system. Before this time, many Universities have backlog of years without convocation but those of us who are managers of Universities converged in Keffi, Nassarawa State, in 2011 and resolved that as we admit students into the university system, we hold orientation and matriculation for them and as the students graduate, we also organize the graduation ceremony known as Convocation.
“That is the joy and beauty of mentorship and the essence of being in the university because there should be a distinction between a student that graduates and those who don’t,” he said.

‘Osinbajo Has Surrendered To Satan’ – Omokri Blasts VP For Attacking Ex President Jonathan

Reno Omokri, has asked General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Enoch Adeboye, to direct Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to stop attacking former President Jonathan.
The former presidential aide said this in reaction to Osinbajo’s remarks at the 7th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum for private sector stakeholders at the State House conference centre.
Osinbajo had claimed that the Jonathan administration shared N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 poll.
Omorki, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Vice President “has again surrendered his lips to satan to be used to spread slander and lies”.
He wrote: “Nigerians may recall that lying is the most consistent achievement of Professor Osinbajo’s almost three years as Vice President.
“Only on October 20, 2017, Vice President Osinbajo was in Anambra state where he lied that the present administration had paid $2 billion for the second Niger Bridge.
“I personally exposed that lie and forced the Presidency to issue a ‘clarification’. The money released was 2 billion Naira and it came from the Sovereign Wealth Fund set up by the Jonathan administration which the APC resisted and challenged in court.
“Even after Jonathan left office, it is still monies that he left behind that the Buhari administration is using.
“It will also be recalled that in February 2016, the Vice President again lied when he claimed that both the Jonathan and Yar’adua governments did not build a single road. This fact was easily disproved when even members of this administration, including Osinbajo’s boss, President Buhari, began commissioning projects, including roads built by the Jonathan administration.
“Some of the roads either built or rebuilt by the Jonathan administration include the Benin-Ore portions of the Benin-Lagos road, the Vom-Manchok road, the Kano-Zaria Road bridge (named after late Emir Ado Bayero) and many more.
“On this most recent allegation by Vice President Osinbajo, let me state categorically that former President Jonathan DID NOT share 150 billion two weeks to the 2015 election. If Professor Osinbajo has proof that former President Jonathan did so, then we challenge him to publish his proof. He is a professor of law and ought to know that he who alleges must prove.
“Again, it is a lie from the pit of hell that the Jonathan administration spent only N14 billion on agriculture and N153 billion on infrastructure in three years as alleged by the fallacious Osinbajo.
“The Jonathan administration budgeted and spent over $10 billion on infrastructure in the 5 years between May 6, 2010 and May 29, 2015.
“The single most expensive and valuable project built in Nigeria in the last 20 years is the $1.8 billion Abuja-Kaduna 187 kilometres super-fast railway that enables Nigerians work in Abuja and live in Kaduna.
“This project was built and completed by the Jonathan administration. Is the Vice President aware of this?
“Also, former President Jonathan revived Railways in five of the six geo-political zones and restored direct rail services from Lagos to Kano, Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and Makurdi to Gombe.
“When Rotimi Amaechi took over as minister of transport in 2015, he said (this is a direct quote)
“In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.”
“My question to the Vice President is who built these rail infrastructures that Amaechi was referring to?
“Who built the only Federal University in President Buhari’s home state of Katsina including 13 other Federal Universities and 165 almajiri schools? It was ex-President Jonathan.
“In contrast, the Buhari administration, which in less than three years has borrowed more money than the PDP borrowed in 16 years cannot point to even one major project they have started and completed.
“Both President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo keep accusing the Jonathan administration of being corrupt and claim that they run an anti-corruption government.
“If this is true, how come Nigeria made her best ever improvement in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index under former President Jonathan in 2014 when we moved 8 places forward from 144 to 136 and why have we made our worst ever retrogression in the Corruption Perception Index under President Buhari, moving 12 places backward from 136 to 148 in 2018?
“The truth is that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo continues to make these discredited comments because he is a man promoted above his competency.
“He was never a deputy Governor or Governor or an ambassador or a minister. His highest portfolio before becoming Vice President was that of a commissioner in Lagos state.
“No wonder he was referred to as ‘ordinary commissioner’ by a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and leading figure in this current administration.”

Police Order Woman To Flog The Hell Out Of Her Husband After Beating Her (Watch Video)

A woman has been seen flogging her own husband with a cane after the police instructed her to do so.
A video has shown the stunning moment a woman flogged her own husband many times on the orders of police officers.
In the video, the man is seen holding on to a table and presenting his backside to his wife who stands behind him with a cane in her hands.
She then proceeds to repeatedly strike him with the cane till he cringes and winces in pain.
According to Nwanne Campo, who shared the video, the man being flogged is actually the woman’s husband who beat her up in their home. The police reportedly ordered her to beat the man up for what he did to her.
Campo wrote: “The man in this video beat up his wife in Ecuador, kicked her 21 times and left her ribs bruised so the local authorities ordered his wife to flog him for beating her up.”
Although still unconfirmed, the story has gone viral on social media.

Mark Zuckerberg loses $5b as Facebook shares fall

Mark Zuckerberg loses $5b as?Facebook shares fallOn Monday, Facebook shares plunged as the social media giant faced an onslaught of criticism at home and abroad over revelations that a firm working for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign harvested and misused data on 50 million members.

On Wall Street, Facebook shares skidded 6.8 percent amid concerns about pressure for new regulations that could hurt its business model. The share plunge erased $5billion from the net worth of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg as calls for investigations came on both sides of the Atlantic after Facebook responded to the explosive reports of misuse of its data by suspending the account of Cambridge Analytica, a British firm hired by Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican John Kennedy called for Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to appear before Congress, along with the CEOs of Google and Twitter. The two lawmakers said the companies “have amassed unprecedented amounts of personal data” and that the lack of oversight “raises concerns about the integrity of American elections as well as privacy rights.”

Senator Ron Wyden asked Facebook to provide more information on what he called a “troubling” misuse of private data that could have been used to sway voters.  Wyden said he wants to know how Cambridge Analytica used Facebook tools “to weaponize detailed psychological profiles against tens of millions of Americans.”

In Europe, officials voiced similar outrage.  Vera Jourova, the European commissioner for justice, consumers and gender equality, called the revelations “horrifying, if confirmed,” and vowed to address concerns in the United States this week.  In Britain, parliamentary committee chair Damian Collins said both Cambridge Analytica and Facebook had questions to answer.

“We have repeatedly asked Facebook about how companies acquire and hold on to user data from their site, and in particular whether data had been taken from people without their consent,” Collins said in a statement. Their answers have consistently understated this risk, and have also been misleading to the committee.”  Alexander Nix is chief executive of Cambridge Analytica, which has denied misusing Facebook data for its work on Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign  Brian Wieser at Pivotal Research said the revelations highlight “systemic problems at Facebook,” but that they won’t immediately impact the social network’s revenues.

Police parades notorious and vicious political thugs allegedly working for Senator Dino Melaye

The Nigerian police on Monday paraded two notorious criminals allegedly working for the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, to destabilise Kogi state towards the 2019 election.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Jimoh Moshood, while parading the suspects, Kabiru Saidu aka Osama and Nuhu Salish, said they were arrested by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Kogi state on January 19, 2018/at Ogojueje.

He said the suspects confessed to being members of a kidnapping gang and also working as political thugs for politicians in the state. He said during interrogation, Saidu had been working as a political thug for Mohammed, who later introduced him to Melaye, who he later met along airport road in Abuja.

Moshood said, “The suspect further confessed that Melaye told him that they should start working for the senator as his political thugs and they should recruit and train other thugs to work for him in preparation towards 2019 general election to enable him to challenge his political opponents and disorganise Kogi state”.

He further alleged that the gang leader confessed that the senator gave them one AK47 rifle, two pump action guns and N430,000.

The FPRO, however, said following the indictment of Melaye and criminal confessions against him, the force had written the Senate president requesting him to release Melaye to report to the Kogi State command of the police on March 7, to enable the police to investigate the issue.

He added that the senator had since refused to honour the police invitation, while a case of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms had been filed against the two suspects at the Federal High Court Lokoja.

However, in his reaction to the allegations, Melaye said it was a frame up and an orchestrated attempt by the state government to discredit him.

Bill Gates Commends Aliko Dangote

The former richest man in the world made the statement while speaking ahead of the release of the 2018 Bill and Melinda Gates Annual Letter to a group of journalists from different African countries in a telephone conference/
Gates said he is amazed by Dangote’s generosity with his resources and time, The Nation writes.
“I am always amazed how generous he has been both with his resources and his time,” he said.
“Just last month, he and I spent six hours on video conferences with six of the northern states where we, twice a year, check in with them and look at their primary healthcare quality in terms of the staff, the location, the supply chain and the results they are getting in terms of vaccination and other interventions.”

“I Did Not Say Re-Electing Buhari In 2019 Will Collapse Nigeria” – Obasanjo

Ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo has denied reports that he said that re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 will collapse Nigeria.
The former head of state in a recent interview said that he never made such a statement. It was widely reported last week that Obasanjo made the comment while delivering a speech at the Bravatnik school of Government at Oxford University.
He said he has not visited London since early January 2018. He told Premiumtimes;
“I won’t and can’t say that (that Nigeria will collapse if Buhari is reelected). There will be nothing that will make Nigeria collapse. When Nigeria did not collapse under a civil war, it won’t collapse now.
My faith and conviction about Nigeria is so strong that I don’t see the country either being dismembered or collapsing. The worst has passed on Nigeria. Once we were able to survive the civil war, once we are able to survive (Sani) Abacha, nothing can be worst than those two. And our democracy is waxing strong. Although there are a few things we need to get right.
As far I am concerned, the worst is over. What remains is for all of us and for our leadership to show good faith and commitment to do what is right. Then Nigeria will grow from strength to strength.

Bayelsa State Expels About 7 Secondary School Students Over Cultism

Four teenage gunmen suspected to be members of a cult group, on Friday attacked the Community Secondary School, Biogbolo, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The teenage gunmen, who brandished assault rifles, caused pandemonium in the school as confused students and staff of the school scampered for safety.
The invasion of the school, however, came a few hours after the state government, through the Ministry of Education, expelled seven pupils over their alleged membership of a cult group. The government expressed the sad existence of cult activities in some schools in the state.
It was gathered on Saturday that the invasion of the CSS, owned by Biogbolo and Yenezue-Epie communities, threw the communities into chaos as the four-member cult gang, armed with assault rifles, scaled the fence and threatened to kill some pupils.
The convener of a non-governmental organisation, Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network, Aluzu Augustine, who was at the school during the invasion, said the teenagers in possession of the assault rifles were between ages 17 and 19. Augustine said, “At about 12pm, I was in the school to submit our letter of intent on the planned anti-cultism campaign in schools and a teacher was putting me through on how to address the letter because the school is owned by two communities.
“We saw four teenage boys scale the fence of the school and some of them were holding assault rifles. They went straight for a boy and were shouting on him and threatening to kill him. Everyone, including students and staff, scampered for safety.
A few minutes later, some detachment of the state-owned security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, arrived the school and the boys escaped through the same way they came in. It was terrible development.”
